Insecure Writer’s Support Group: Post #8

It's the first Wednesday of the month again. Time for another IWSG post.

Yikes! I forgot all about IWSG until I saw the notice for Lexa's post. I've been busy launching a new story (Give Me Your Teeth: A Fae Tale) and a contest (go here).

Am I feeling insecure? Absolutely!! With a very capital A. Too early to tell if either of these endeavors is going to be successful. What if they both fail? I guess I can either scale back my definition of success or just lump it and move on, hopefully having learned something. So what do you do when it's not clear if the ship you're on is sinking?

Until next month, keep writing.

  3. Right now, I'm floating without even having to bail. ;) I'm just trying to find time to write. I want to graduate from canoe to yacht... or at least motor boat. LOL

  4. Hey, I didn't remember about IWSG until 3am on Wednesday morning. Talk about last minute!

And whatever you learn from your two endeavors will be useful, so neither of them can really fail. good luck with them both.

  5. "Oh, of course I'll keep it to myself. Until the water reaches my lower lip, and then I'm going to mention it to somebody!" ~ Jack Lemmon, Professor Fate, "The Great Race" (on a sinking iceberg)

So when the water reaches your lower lip, then you know you're sinking. But you can always do the dog paddle and stay above the waterline. ;)

  6. If the water is up to your nose then it's time to change tactics!!! I like what everyone wrote here. All Good! Persevere and try again.

  7. Lumping and learning sounds like a good plan. But I doubt you'll fail. I've been reading your story between my NaNo sprints. You've got a good thing going.

  8. Lunching a book or story is always nerve-wrecking but you have a good attitude and that's half of the way. =) Best of luck!

  9. Learning is always a good thing, no? So, keep on keeping on and don't let "perceived" failure get you down...

  10. I always feel anxious when I release something new. Your story is great. My fingers are crossed for you!

  11. Yes, I loved the fae story - review coming real soon now. What do you do if you're not sure if the ship you're on is sinking? Sail on with the sun on your face and the wind in you hair while you can! And if it does go badly wrong, pretend you've invented the submarine.

  12. It's helter-skelter for me. Blitz or burn out. Start and stop. No ideas on keeping up the mojo. :(

  13. Grab a pail and keep tossing the water out. LOL! Really, it can be hard, but learning from the past of what worked and what didn't will help. Good luck!
